Little Babe Turns ONE (And Climbs!)
This is pretty big... Little Babe turned ONE last week! We have a two year old AND a one year old in the HOUUSSEEE.
When Little Babe was born, it was a very different experience to our first- it was actually a bit (dareIevensay?) ‘funny.’ Second time around, we were booked in for a c section, but I had a feeling we might not hold out that long. With our first, things had started at 39&3. Our section for Little Babe was booked for 39&3...and they say second babes come sooner.
However, lo and behold, I finished work a week before and we made it to the evening before the section. Resigning myself to the fact she was waiting out, I stuffed my face, watched a Stacey Dooley documentary and reached 10pm, making a comment about “in 10 hours time, we’ll be going in to have a baby!”
Lo and behold, just like (very intrusive, unglamorous and slightly graphic) magic, Little Babe actually showed up in the world a mere 4 hours later! There was no hanging about this time!?
And that’s kind of set the tone ever since...
Little Babe is forever on the go! It seems only natural that she started walking this week and took a milestone 4 steps on her first birthday. She is also part mountain-goat (just like her sister) and love to climb! If there’s something to climb, they’ll climb it. Our children don’t appear to be huge fans of the floor.
I’m not even kidding (haha! Pun!) they prefer to turn toy boxes upside down and get ON them rather than actually play with the toys IN them?
Two year old Tot regularly likes to try and travel along the top of the sofa and, when she’s told not to, her response is: “I’m a cat, Mummy.”
I mean, how can she tell me stuff like that already? I feel like all we have to do is close our eyes and Little Babe will be doing exactly the same things very soon. Hybrid Cat Kids.
At the moment, Little Babe gets cross that she can’t get up onto the sofa by herself. Our sofa is high enough that she can’t get up unattended but, at the same time... boy, don’t I know it! She’s at the age where, when she gets frustrated, she just makes some elongated meeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh noise.
Much of our time in the lounge at the moment is spent listening to “meeeeeeeeehhhh.” The only problem is, when I lift her up onto the sofa, she obviously hasn’t mastered trying to get off it yet, as she prefers to try and NOSE DIVE. Of course I catch her before we end up with any cracked noses, but she’s a bit like catching a slippery fish in water, so I feel pretty fortunate we’ve avoided danger thus far. All the baby books recommended ‘baby proofing’ the house, however, we’d be left with no furniture if we were to follow that rule... We would easily have to remove the windowsill, the play table, the stairs, the shoe rack...
Anyway, we had a wonderful (and snowy!?) time celebrating her first birthday! She’s usually such a contented little character- with a hugely gorgeous smile! She adores her big sister- and Tot is a treasure to her in return- even though they have begun ‘fighting’ over who’ll climb the toy box next...!
