A Review of Baker Days Letterbox Christmas Cake

Post (if it doesn't resemble bills) is always a little bit exciting, and I was certainly a bit excited- on a blustery, dark Tuesday- to see a letterbox sized cardboard package drop through my front door!

Instantly I knew what it must be and I was all the more eager to open it. Two days previous, I had placed an order with Baker Days to try one of their Christmas cakes- this had to be it! I whipped off the tape, slipped open the box and I was delighted to find more than just the cake! They'd also included a couple of balloons to blow up; a party blower; a couple of candles; and a blank card for me to use. The cake itself was presented in a gorgeous, little tin, which I felt was an added detail and instantly gave the impression of a great value for money product. The extras were a lovely touch- spot on for surprises there, Baker Days!

Talking of surprises, the Christmas range definitely lends itself perfectly to being a gift to surprise somebody with through their letterbox (or yourself!!?) As you can see from my pictures, I ordered one to see what we could send out to our family and friends (and will be doing so!)

I picked this design because I thought it would showcase a light-hearted, cheery gift- I also found the brussel sprout snowmen comical and cute! However, there was an amazing range of designs on the webpage to suit all- you can even have photos put on to some of the cakes- a brilliant touch. In admittance, I spent far too long browsing the designs (good job I'm on maternity leave!) I was personally in favour of the ones with little Christmas characters on, hence my final decision.

All of the range in the Christmas section that I browsed could be personalised with names and/or messages- I went with quite a short personalisation so that it was big and matched the fun style I fancied. It also got me thinking that I could personalise another one to send to my Grandparents, who haven't been able to meet my little baby yet because of distance. A note with a baby face somewhere on a cake...cute gift idea!!

It wasn't just Bakers Days' aesthetics and details I was impressed by. On opening the cake tin the vanilla sponge smell sprung out – that fresh cake aroma! Yum! I eagerly grabbed a knife and sliced myself a piece, biting into a lovely piece of sponge (again, there was plenty of choice – I could choose the type of cake I wanted from the options on the website.... but a classic sponge always wins for me!)

Although the cake has to be quite slim (it's a letterbox cake!) the taste was full and flavoursome. Covered in icing, it was sweet and had that home-made-birthday-cake feel. At the bottom, providing a nice moist texture, was a smearing of vanilla butter cream- delicious.

The company suggests a cake of this size will provide 4 slices, but I actually cut mine into 6 so I could snack little and often (or try and convince myself I was being 'sensible?!') I may have even had some for breakfast (well...who can stay sensible when it comes to cake?!)

Overall, I loved this product. With Christmas coming up, it's a brilliant idea for a present and I feel Baker Days are offering goods with a great value for money.

The ordering process is simple and quick; the presentation is impressive; and the cake itself is a cracking, Christmas-themed product.

Now, what did I do with the rest of my cake...!?
