5 Tips for Island Maternity Wear: Guest Post
Finding stylish, inexpensive Maternity clothes is difficult enough as it is, but add to the fact that you live on an island without a huge amount of maternity shops and you’ve got a real challenge on your hands! Or have you? In reality, most brands only stock their maternity ranges online so actually – the ‘maternity fashion’ world is your oyster! Here are our top 5 tips on creating your perfect maternity wardrobe.
1. Invest in a great capsule wardrobe
People believe Maternity wear is expensive, especially when you are only going to be wearing it for a matter of months. Our top tip is to invest in a few brilliant basics – jeans (one black, one blue), vest/tees (black, white, striped), leggings, maternity bra and a dress that makes you feel amazing. Anything else you get is a bonus but these items will be at the core of your wardrobe during your pregnancy so spend a few pennies getting ones which you love, are comfy and fit you really well.
2. Review your own existing wardrobe
A lot is going on with your body at the moment. Everything’s changing and now your favourite jeans don’t fit. Some women can feel they lose their identity a bit during pregnancy so finding clothes which are ‘you’ is actually really important. There will be many items already in your wardrobe which you will be able to wear still. Footwear, cover ups, accessories – all of these items added to your maternity capsule wardrobe will help give you more choice and help retain your own sense of style during your pregnancy.
3. Treat yourself to something you can also wear post pregnancy
Justifying spending money on maternity wear can be tricky when you are also saving for a baby and all the things that come with it! But it may be a long time before you feel like you can treat yourself to some new clothes. So, if you are going to buy something, why not look at something you can wear now and later – a gorgeous pair of shoes, a new leather or denim jacket or a beautiful statement necklace. These will not only last you well beyond your pregnancy but will help you add your own style stamp to your maternity wardrobe.
4. You can wear the latest trends and it needn’t cost a fortune
So many brands now also stock maternity ranges – the likes of Topshop, New Look and ASOS are brilliant at taking items in their mainstream range and editing it for a maternity fit, proving that a bump shouldn’t get in your way of rocking the latest trends. Plus, as they are high street brands, they aren’t really expensive. And if you’ve got a special occasion coming up, don’t be scared to treat yourself. Most people buy a new frock just for a special event anyway, so you may as well use it as an opportunity to look and feel fabulous! ASOS and Tiffany Rose are both great at occasion wear.
5. Click and Collect
Some stores on the island also do Maternity ranges – Topshop, H&M, Next and New Look do great maternity ranges online – covering brilliant basics, fab maternity jeans and the latest trends. So although they don’t stock them in store, get them delivered to your local branch, try them on and return what you don’t want there and then.
